Male Breast Reduction - Gynecomastia
Also known as gynecomastia, breast reduction for men is the surgical correction of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men. Some men have deposits of excess breast tissue and fat in their breasts, giving them a female form. While sometimes related to medicines or a hormonal imbalance, these inciting causes are not often found to be a factor. Most cases are a matter of bad luck! Correction of this problem known as Gynecomastia is usually able to be accomplished with Liposuction. In rare cases, there is so much extra skin that this must be reduced as well as the internal deposits.
Gynecomastia is the development of abnormal breast tissue on men, small or large, and normally on both sides. The term comes from the Greek gyne meaning "woman" and mastos meaning "breast". One out of three American adults suffers from some degree of enlarged male breast. Gynecomastia can cause feelings of embarrassment and awkwardness. For most men, the best solution to reduce and reshape their breast is by surgery.
No longer do men with Gynecomastia have to hide their chests or be ridiculed for having “man-boobs”. Adult onset Gynecomastia is usually irreversible unless corrected through a variety of surgical treatments such as Male Breast Reduction, Mastectomy, and/or Liposuction.
Male breast reduction involves making an incision at the periphery of the areola and surgically removing the glandular breast tissue. In those who have more fatty breast tissue, this can be accomplished via small stab incisions with Liposuction.
