How is Liposelection performed?<\/h2>\n

Liposuction<\/a> is an outpatient surgical procedure that works by using a suction technique to remove unwanted fat from targeted areas on the body. During Liposelection, Dr. Wiener makes tiny incisions and injects a saline solution to numb the area and shrink blood vessels, which helps facilitate fat removal and minimizes bruising.<\/p>\n

Through the incision, Dr. Wiener then inserts a very thin device that emits ultrasonic waves to break down targeted fat cells, turning them into liquid. The ultrasound energy doesn\u2019t disturb nearby tissue, which makes this treatment different than traditional liposuction.<\/p>\n

Once the fat cells have been liquified, they are removed using a small cannula. The incision is stitched closed and bandaged.<\/p>\n

What areas can be treated with Liposelection?<\/h2>\n

The most common areas of treatment include the abdomen, flanks, back, hips, thighs, knees, ankles and neck. The type of anesthesia used will depend on the areas treated and extent of treatment.<\/p>\n

Who are good candidates?<\/h2>\n

As with traditional liposuction, Liposelection is not a weight-loss procedure. Patients who are at or near their ideal body weight, in good general health and following a healthy lifestyle are good candidates for this procedure.<\/p>\n

What should I expect from recovery?<\/h2>\n

Patients who undergo Liposelection can expect some degree of swelling and potentially mild bruising, but they will find the swelling and discomfort is much less than with traditional liposuction. Patients have to wear a form-fitting surgical garment for several weeks to minimize swelling and help with the contouring. You should be able to return to work within a week, but avoid strenuous activities for about 4-6 weeks after the procedure.<\/p>\n
