Although exceptionally rare, some breast augmentation patients may suffer from complications or side effects. One of the best ways that you can prevent these complications from developing into something more serious is to be mindful of how your body is healing and know what signs to look for. Let’s take a closer look at a few signs that you may have a post-op infection.

Pus at the incision site

Having some fluid drain from your incision site is completely normal as your body’s healing after surgery. If, however, you notice that it looks like pus is coming out of your incision, then this may be a sign that you are developing an infection. Have a friend or family member take a closer look at the skin around your stitches. Does it look red, irritated, and infected? If so, schedule an appointment with Dr. Gregory Wiener right away.

Flu-Like Symptoms

If you start experiencing flu-like symptoms while you’re recovering like fever, chills, sweats, and aches when you may be suffering from an infection— especially if symptoms come on rather quickly. Call our office right away if you experience these symptoms while you are recovering.

Increased Pain and Swelling

After a week or two, the swelling around your breasts should go down substantially, and the pain should wear off. If you have noticed that the pain and swelling haven’t gone down or have gotten worse, these are other signs of infection.

Resting, cleaning your incision site, massaging your breasts, and taking good care of yourself while you’re in recovery will help make sure you don’t get an infection. Although very rare, if you experience any of the symptoms listed above, don’t hesitate to give our office a call. To learn more about breast augmentations or breast augmentation surgery, schedule an appointment at our Chicago office today and call (773) 763-3990.

Any type of surgery comes with some potential risks and complications.
