If you have your first laser hair removal appointment all ready and scheduled, it’s important to know how to prepare for your appointment and what things you should avoid. In order to get the best hair free laser results as possible, read on to learn more.

1. Avoid Plucking, Waxing, or Electrolysis
Laser Hair RemovalIf you are one of those people who can’t stand the look of one nasty hair that just won’t go away, then you might be inclined to want to pluck, wax, or get electrolysis done before your laser hair removal appointment. However, every one of these procedures will disrupt the hair follicle and can cause the laser hair removal procedure to not work as effectively.

2. Avoid the Sun
If you just got back from a long beach vacation, you should wait before getting laser hair removal done. A tan will actually increase the chance of skin whitening— a side effect of laser hair removal. Speak with your doctor about how long you should wait to let your tan fade before undergoing laser hair removal.

3. Certain Medications
Certain medications like blood thinners or topical medications like Retinol should be avoid leading up to laser hair removal. Blood thinners will have adverse side effects and Retinol will cause your skin to become even more sensitive to the lasers, causing the treatment process to be extremely painful and irritating.

Laser hair removal is a routine non-invasive procedure that can be done in your doctor’s office in little to no time at all. And although this procedure is very safe and has very few adverse side effects, it’s important to avoid the above listed things before you undergo laser hair removal. If you are considering getting laser hair removal and would like to learn more about what to avoid prior to the procedure, contact our office today and one of our professionals can help answer any of your questions or concerns.

seated-cross-legUnwanted hair can leave you feeling a little more than embarrassed come bikini season. However, with bikini season behind us and sweater season upon us, it can be easy to forget about shaving and simply hibernate in oversized clothing. However, for many women that simply isn’t a realistic possibility— at some point or another you are going to show off some of your skin and you don’t want it to be covered in hair. Laser hair removal is the process of targeting hair follicles using a highly target laser procedure in order to stop the growth and production of hair in the future. Read on to learn more.

What Areas Can Be Targeted?

Whether it’s your legs, arms, or the area (ah hem) down there, laser hair removal can be used all over your body, including your face! One of the most important things to remember when deciding what parts of your body to target with laser hair removal is that it works better on areas that have darker hair. People who have blonde or light colored hair, tend to not see as strong of results as individuals have darker hair.

How Many Sessions Will It Take?

Although it would be nice to imagine that laser hair removal is a one and done kind of process, it will take at least a couple of treatments in order to get you the results you want. And depending on a few factors, including the area where you want treatment, how fine or course the hair is, and the color of the hair, it could take around the upwards of 7-8 laser treatments until you start to see real results.

Does It Hurt?

The pain associated with laser hair removal has been related to that of rubber bands repeatedly smacking against your skin. However, many patients say that after a few minutes, you will get used to the sensation and will slowly forget that you are even undergoing treatment.
