Close up shot of charming young girl with perfect clean skinMost of us know what cleansing and moisturizing do for our skin. But did you know that professional treatments are available to help you get glowing, healthy skin? From chemical peels to microdermabrasion, here’s a quick overview of the benefits of professional skincare treatments.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel exfoliates the skin using alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, scars, and discoloration. It also helps improve skin texture by removing dead skin cells from the surface. You can use chemical peels on any part of your body, including your face and neck, and they can adjust to your needs.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation treatment that uses a machine with an abrasive diamond tip to buff away dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This treatment is popular for those with sun-damaged or aging skin, and it can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and more. With immediate results and minimal downtime, this is an ideal treatment for those seeking quick results.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a non-invasive procedure that uses laser technology to improve the tone and texture of your skin while reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging. During treatment, intense pulses of light energy target damaged areas on the surface layer of your skin while stimulating collagen production in deeper layers. After one session, you’ll notice a smoother texture and fewer wrinkles in treated areas!

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an excellent solution for those looking to restore volume to their face and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Unlike Botox, which temporarily paralyzes facial muscles to prevent wrinkles, dermal fillers use a gel-like substance to fill in wrinkles and add volume to your skin. Depending on the type of filler used, results can last anywhere from six months to two years. You can use dermal fillers for lip plumping, nasolabial folds, and cheekbone sculpting.

Having youthful skin doesn’t have to end in your early twenties. In fact, Dr. Wiener believes that people can age gracefully for the rest of their lives. To help your skin remain a way that you will be proud of in your sixties and seventies, there are a few changes that you can make to your lifestyle.

Drink More Water

The more hydrated you are on the inside, the more hydrated you will be on the outside. By drinking more water every day and cutting back on too much caffeine, you can prevent your skin from drying out too much, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles.

Wear Sunscreen

Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of aging skin. The more sun exposure you get, the more sunspots, fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity you are bound to have. Get into the habit of wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your face every day. Broad-spectrum sunscreens are designed to shield your skin from both UVA an UVB rays which can lead to premature signs of aging.

Wash Your Face

Going to bed too late cannot only make you groggy in the morning, but it can also make you get into bad habits like forgetting to wash your face. Getting into the habit of washing your face every night will help you improve the clarity, textures, and appearance of your skin while combatting skin conditions like acne at the same time.

These small steps can have a big impact on how your skin ages. To learn more about anti-aging skin are treatments and products, contact our office today at (773) 763-3990.

Photo Rejuvenating Facial Treatments Chicago, ILSummertime is the best time to get outdoors, soak up some sun, and enjoy some time with the ones you love the most. Although summertime can bring a lot of fun along with it, it can also bring some sun damage. This summer, make sure that you get rid of existing sun spots while getting rid of old sunspots as well. But how?

Avoid New Sunspots

The best way for you to avoid getting new sunspots is to stay inside under a blanket for the rest of your life, but since that’s not likely going to happen, then you can settle for these tips:

  • Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen:

Broad spectrum sunscreen will shield your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Just make sure that you apply it every hour or two if you’re staying outside all day.

  • Wear a Hat

You can get sunspots all over your body, especially on your face and shoulders. One way to shield both of these spots at once is to get a large, oversized sun hat. One of these sun hats will shield your face, decollete, shoulders, and neck from the sun.

  • Watch the Retinol

Retinol is one of the best topical things you can use on your skin, but it’s also something that you’ll make you more susceptible to getting sun spots or even burning. Talk to your dermatologist about using retinol during the summer.

Get Rid of Old Spots

Here at our office, we have a variety of different treatments that we can use to help you get rid of your sun spots, including:

  • Laser
  • Broadband Light (BBL) Phototherapy

You can’t protect your sun from all sun, but you can help prevent it from happening. To make sure that you don’t walk into fall covered in sunspots, use the tips in this article to both prevent your skin from getting new spots and get rid of existing ones.

Get rid of your sun spots today and call our Chicago office at (773) 763-3990.

spa facialGetting a spa facial will not only make you feel relaxed, but it will also help regulate the oils on your skin. To get the most out of your facial, try using the tips listed below. From drinking water afterward to avoiding applying makeup, this article will discuss three ways that you can get the most out of your facial. Read on to learn more.

  1. Drink Water or Green Tea Afterward

One of the best things you can do for your skin after a facial is to drink either a lot of water or green tea. By staying hydrated, you can help with the detoxifying and healing process of your skin— leaving you with firmer, smoother looking skin.

  1. Avoid the Sun

Nothing feels quite as good as laying out in the hot sun. However, make sure that you avoid the sun after you have a facial. Exposing your skin to the sun can dry it out and cause sun damage— two things that your facial helped to prevent. If you have plans to spend time in the sun after your facial, wear a large-brimmed hat and sunscreen.

  1. Don’t Apply Makeup

Your skin will likely be red after a facial and the first thing you may want to do grab for your concealer and foundation to perfect your skin tone. However, applying makeup to your skin directly following your facial isn’t going to do you any favors. During your facial, your pores were opened and cleaned out— ridding your skin of dirt and bacteria. However, as soon as you apply makeup, it will settle into your newly cleaned pores and cause them to become dirty again. Do your skin a favor and give it a rest from makeup for at least the rest of the day.

Spending a day at the spa getting a facial is a great way to rejuvenate your mind, skin, and soul. To get the most out of your facial, make sure that you are doing the things listed above. To learn more about the benefits of a facial, contact Dr. Gregory Wiener today!

men plastic surgeryFrom fillers to facelifts, the field of aesthetic medicine has largely been supported by women. More recently, however, we are seeing an increased interest coming from the men’s side of the aisle. We applaud any person who makes a decision to improve something that has rocked their self-esteem, and enjoy seeing how open most people are today to discuss how they are staying young.

Botox

This cosmetic solution was not initially intended for the purpose it now fills. However, the purified protein has become renowned around the world for safely and quickly reducing troublesome concerns such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Like women, men whose foreheads and brows are marked with horizontal or vertical lines can look worried or angry. Softening these lines does not inhibit facial expression, and it can actually heighten face to face interaction!

Dermal Fillers

Volume loss is a real downer. Quite literally, the decrease in fatty and fluid substances beneath the skin can lead to a downward fall of facial skin. The jowls become heavy and loose, as do the eyelids. The cheeks flatten, and the jaw line can lose is masculine angles. Dermal fillers are formulated for just about every area of the face, and for mild to severe lines and folds. Reinstating more youthful contours  can be a big confidence booster.

Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are one of the first areas of the face to indicate age. Consequences of loose, sagging skin on either the upper or lower lids include the perception of anger or unfriendliness. A man with heavy eyes looks far more tired than he may feel, and this can affect his work relationships as well as his social interactions. An eyelid lift, called blepharoplasty, can be a great way to rejuvenate the entire face.

Liposuction

The older a man gets, the more he may struggle to maintain a slim, toned physique. This can be due to the natural decline in testosterone as well as a less active lifestyle. The areas that are often affected by unwanted fat are the flanks, or love handles, and the abdomen. Excess breast tissue may also become a disruptive problem. To make their time in the gym count, many men are turning to liposuction to complement their physical activity and healthy eating habits.

What good comes of procrastinating when it comes to feeling your best? Don’t wait. Contact our office to discuss your cosmetic concerns.
