Beautiful woman in her late 40s has youthful face thanks to facelift surgery.Facelift surgery has evolved significantly over the past two decades, and today’s techniques are far more refined, subtle, and individualized than those of earlier eras. At the Chicago practice of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gregory Wiener, patients benefit from modern facelift methods that focus on restoring youthful structure rather than simply tightening the skin.

With extensive experience in facial surgery and a commitment to natural aesthetic outcomes, Dr. Wiener provides facelift results that help patients look refreshed without appearing “pulled” or overcorrected.

The Shift From Skin Tightening to Structural Rejuvenation

Older facelift techniques focused on stretching the outer skin, which often resulted in an unnatural or overly tight appearance. Modern facelifts focus on the deeper facial layers, especially the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), which supports the cheeks, jawline, and lower face. By lifting and repositioning these foundational tissues, Dr. Wiener restores youthful contours without distorting facial expression. The skin is then gently re-draped over the repositioned structure, creating soft, balanced results.

Customization Based on Individual Anatomy

Today’s facelifts are not one-size-fits-all. Dr. Wiener evaluates each patient’s facial shape, degree of laxity, volume loss, and skin quality to design a treatment plan tailored to their needs. Some patients may benefit most from a comprehensive lower facelift, while others may require only a limited incision approach. Fat transfer can also be used to restore youthful volume in areas like the cheeks or temples, allowing for a more natural, blended rejuvenation.

Improved Incision Placement and Healing

Modern facelift incisions are strategically placed along natural creases around the ears and hairline, making them far less visible once healed. Advances in suture techniques and gentle tissue handling help minimize tension on the skin, reducing scar prominence and contributing to more natural-looking facial movement after recovery.

Pairing the Facelift With Complementary Treatments

Another reason facelifts look more natural today is the availability of complementary aesthetic treatments. Laser resurfacing, neck contouring, eyelid surgery, and injectable treatments can address the fine details that surgery alone cannot. When thoughtfully combined, these enhancements create a balanced, refreshed appearance that looks youthful yet unmistakably like you.

Beauty woman healthy skin fresh clean beautiful faceMany people start to see deep cheek folds and jowls in their 40s and 50s. At this time, you may be wondering what your options are to achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. What’s great is that there are various types of facelift surgery depending on the location and extent of skin laxity. Read on to learn more about the different types of facelift surgery and which one may be right for your concerns.

The Mini-Face Lift

If neck skin laxity isn’t a major concern, then a mini-face lift may just what you need. A mini-face lift consists of making limited incisions in front of and partially within the ears. The surgeon elevates deep tissues and facial fat and smooths out cheek and jowl skin. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Recovery is about 1-2 weeks, which makes it a great procedure for turning back the hands of time.

Face and Neck Lift

When you need more extensive correction of the face and neck, the deep tissue is lifted and the neck muscles tightened. Facial skin is repositioned, then excess skin is trimmed. Similar to the mini-face lift, full facelift surgery is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Recovery can take several weeks.

Additional Procedures

A face lift won’t address the aging of the eyes, brows or forehead. Additional procedures such as an eyelid lift, brow lift or laser skin resurfacing can enhance your surgical results from a facelift to give you the results you desire.

Candidates for facelift surgery

If you are in good overall health and a nonsmoker, then you are an ideal candidate for surgery. It’s also important to have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for the outcome of surgery.

Results

Incisions will leave scars, but they are made to be undetectable once the incisions have healed. You will look like yourself but vastly rejuvenated. Patients typically appear 5-10 years younger, depending on the extent of surgery and any additional procedures performed.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Chicago, ILOne of the most important things to remember about a facelift is that some degree of swelling will continue to persist for weeks or even months after your procedure but in about 10-14 after your facelift, you should start to notice a significant decrease in the swelling and will able to get out in public without feeling like you’re wearing a scary Halloween mask. While you’re at home, there are a few things that you can do to reduce your facial swelling, but what? Let’s take a closer look at a few suggestions.

Keep Your Head Elevated

Everyone knows that if you have a swollen ankle, you should keep it elevated, well, the rules are similar with a facelift. If you have a swollen face, you should keep it elevated and definitely shouldn’t sleep flat on your back at night. Try keeping your head elevated with a pillow while you sleep so that everything drains.

Keep Your Face Wrapped

When we send you home from Dr. Wiener’s office, your face will be wrapped in some heavy gauze which may make you resemble more of a mummy than an actual person. Make sure that you keep your face wrapped in those  bandages until Dr. Wiener gives you the go-ahead to take them off; the extra compression around your face will help ease swelling and allow everything to heal better as well.

Take NSAIDs

Let’s face it when you’re in any amount of pain and when your face is swollen, you may as well delete everyone from your phone and name NSAIDs as your best friend. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) work on the inside to help alleviate pain and reduce swelling in the process.

As previously mentioned, even though it may take several months or all of the swelling to go down after your felift, taking these small measure will help you hopefully get rid of it faster. If you want to learn more about how you can get rid of facelift swelling, schedule an appointment with Dr. Wiener at our Chicago office and call us today at (773) 763-3990

Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Chicago, ILWhen it comes to diving into the fountain of youth to help you look more youthful for longer, Dr. Gregory Wiener has several surgical and nonsurgical tools to help you achieve that look. If you have started to notice hollowness in your upper cheeks, prominent nasolabial folds, or bags under your eyes, then he may recommend a surgical procedure called a mid-face lift. Unlike a traditional facelift that is used to correct fine lines and wrinkles across the entire face, a mid facelift focuses on the eyes and cheekbones. But other than helping you look a little more youthful, what are the benefits of a mid facelift?

Recovery Is Easier

Some surgeons use traditional facelift methods during a mid facelift, but here at our office, Dr. Wiener uses endoscopic facelift techniques which mean that it’s a lot less invasive, recovery is easier, and the incisions are a lot smaller.

Long Lasting Results

Even though fillers and Botox are great at doing their job, they do require a little bit of upkeep. In fact, Botox only lasts an average of 3-6 months which means that you’ll have to get injections done around three times per year. With a mid facelift, we won’t be able to give you permanent results but results will last much longer than with an injectable.

Real Results

In addition to getting long-lasting results from a mid facelift, our patients also get real results. In fact, you will notice the results right away but they will only get better as the swelling and bruising fade away.

If a mid-face lift sounds like something that you are interested in then schedule your consultation at our Chicago office today and give us a call at (773) 763-3990.

faceliftWhen it comes to the world of plastic surgery, it can seem like every corner you turn there are different procedures that claim to make you look and feel younger. However, although things such as fillers and injectables help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, they are also only temporary solutions to an otherwise larger issue. If you would like to a more permanent fix in regards to your aging skin, you may want to consider getting a lift— there are two main lifts you will want to consider, a mid-face lift and a face lift. Read on to learn more.

What is a traditional face lift?
During a traditional face lift, Dr. Wiener will work to smooth the loose skin around your neck and face in order to help give you that youthful appearance that you are starting to miss. During the surgical process, Dr. Wiener will make incisions both on the hairline and behind the ears and will then use an endoscope to help guide him through the procedure in order to deliver more precise and accurate results.

What is a mid-face lift?
During a mid-face lift, Dr Wiener will pull the middle of the face in order to smooth and tighten the skin. This specific type of lift is used to target the middle of the face including the nose, eyes, and corners of the mouth that tend to start to sag and lose elasticity as you continue to age.

During the surgical process, Dr. Wiener will make small incisions around the temples and then will use an endoscope in order to properly evaluate and assess just exactly what needs to be removed and how.

There are benefits to both a traditional face lift and a mid-face lift. Depending on what areas of your face you are looking to target, will help you and Dr. Gregory Wiener determine what type of surgery will give you the best results possible.
