Woman in pink bikini stands in front of a surfboardIf you are considering breast lift surgery, you may be curious whether there is an ideal age to undergo the procedure. However, the truth is that breast lifts are highly personalized — and age is just one of many factors to consider. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gregory Wiener has been performing cosmetic breast procedures for over two decades in Chicago. Known for his technical precision and artistic approach, Dr. Wiener helps patients of all ages restore youthful, natural-looking breast contours with carefully planned mastopexy surgery.

What a Breast Lift Accomplishes

Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is designed to elevate sagging breasts, reposition the nipple, and remove stretched or excess skin. These concerns can arise at different stages of life, so the “best” age for a lift varies based on each woman’s body and goals. For some, changes to the breasts may occur after weight loss or pregnancy in their 30s or 40s. Others may seek a lift in their 50s or 60s after years of natural aging and loss of skin elasticity.

Why Age Isn’t the Only Factor

Rather than focusing on age, Dr. Wiener evaluates several important factors during a consultation. The position of the nipple in relation to the breast crease, the degree of skin laxity, the amount of natural tissue, and the woman’s overall health all help determine whether a lift is appropriate. Candidates should also be at or near their goal weight and not planning future pregnancies, since that can stretch breast tissue again and compromise results.

Customized Approach at Every Stage of Life

One of the advantages of working with an experienced surgeon like Dr. Wiener is his ability to customize the procedure to match each woman’s anatomy and stage of life. Younger patients often desire subtle correction with minimal scarring, while older patients may benefit from a more extensive lift combined with augmentation or reshaping for optimal balance and volume.

Whether you’re in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or beyond, breast lift surgery can help restore the shape and position of your breasts. Dr. Gregory Wiener is a board-certified plastic surgeon with the expertise and experience to guide you through the process. Contact 773-763-3990 to schedule your personalized consultation.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Chicago, ILAre your breasts sagging or drooping? Do you wish they were perkier like they used to be? Then a breast lift procedure might be just what you’re looking for. A breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon to reshape and lift your breasts. Breast lift procedures are actually different than augmentation procedures but can be coupled together.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

You’re a good candidate for a breast lift if your breasts are sagging either due to pregnancy and breastfeeding or weight loss. The effects of aging may also cause your breasts to droop.

Breast lift procedures are not permanent and your results may change if you lose or gain weight as well as if you become pregnant. It’s recommended to have a breast lift after pregnancy or breastfeeding to maintain your results.

What Happens During a Breast Lift Procedure?

The purpose of a breast lift procedure is to elevate the breasts by removing excess skin and moving the nipple and areolas to a higher position. Dr. Wiener can also reduce the size of the areola if you’d like and pair the procedure with breast implants if you’d like to increase your breast size. It’s important to note that a breast lift on its own will not change the size of your breasts, only the shape, and position.

During the procedure, Dr. Wiener can create a variety of incisions depending on the degree of the breast lift that’s needed. For minor lifts, an incision is only done around the areola. In larger lifts, an incision may extend vertically down the lower half of the breasts. If you opt for implants, that may also minimize the length of the lift incision required.

What Is Recovery From a Breast Lift Like?

A breast lift recovery is not nearly as painful as an augmentation. That being said, you will still experience some swelling and soreness following the procedure. Follow your post-operation instructions carefully for the best healing results. Most patients can return to work within a week but more extensive procedures may need additional recovery time. It will take up to 6 weeks to reach a full recovery.
