elegant blonde woman posing in black dress back viewAre you bothered by sagging skin or back fat rolls? Don’t worry. You’re not alone. You can develop this condition from aging, sun exposure, or massive weight loss. If you suffer from this issue, consider a bra-line back lift. This surgical procedure, offered by Dr. Gregory Wiener in Chicago, IL, can help improve the appearance of the back and boost overall confidence. But is it right for you? Here’s what you need to know.

What Is A Bra-Line Back Lift?

A bra line back lift is a body contouring procedure that addresses loose, sagging skin or fat rolls on the upper and middle back. The Art of Plastic Surgery’s Dr. Gregory Wiener often combines bra line back lifts with liposuction to achieve better contouring results.

Ideal Candidates for a Bra-Line Back Lift

The ideal candidate for a bra-line back lift is someone with sagging skin or back fat rolls that have not responded to diet and exercise. One example is women with substantial weight loss after bariatric surgery. While the procedure is not exclusive to women, men do not typically develop sagging skin or back fat rolls from aging and sun exposure at the same rate as women.

The Back Lift Procedure

The bra-line back lift is done under general anesthesia and usually takes between 1 and 2 hours. An incision is made across the back, and excess folds and skin bulges are removed. The scar is typically hidden behind a bra or bathing suit, and most patients report significant improvements in appearance and confidence.

Recovery from a Bra-Line Back Lift

After the surgery, patients must wear a form-fitting surgical garment for several weeks. A comfortable bra with a wide transverse strap is recommended during this time. Patients should avoid vigorous exercise or heavy lifting for about two weeks and can usually resume normal activity after four weeks.

Bra-line Back Lift Chicago, ILHaving a slender body is one thing but having fat in certain areas of your body that you just can’t seem to get rid of, is another. If you have noticed that you have some excess fat that likes to peep up and over your bra line, then you may want to consider a bra-line back lift from Dr. Gregory Wiener. During this surgical procedure, Dr. Wiener will make an incision across the back that can be hidden by your bra or swimsuit and then excess skin and fat will be removed to give you a flatter looking back. After you are sent to the recovery room and are approved to go home, then the real recovery process begins. So, what can you expect from recovery? Dr. Wiener has a few tips to help you have a smoother and hopefully faster recovery.

Avoid Vigorous Exercise or Heavy Lifting

For about 2 weeks after your bra-line back lift surgery, Dr. Wiener encourages patients to avoid any sort of vigorous exercise or heavy lifting. Once your incisions have fully healed and Dr. Wiener gives you the go-ahead, then you can start easing into things again.

Wear a Comfortable Bra

When we first send you home from surgery, we will usually give you a form-fitting surgical garment to wear post-operatively. For the next few weeks while everything is healing, most women prefer to wear a comfortable bra with a  wide strap; that way there isn’t any sort of pain or discomfort while your back is healing.

Be Careful With Sleep

For the first few days while your back heals, try to avoid sleeping flat on your back because it can place some pressure on it. If you are a back sleeper, then consider continuing to wear the surgical garment as an extra layer of protection while you’re sleeping.

Don’t worry: we will send you home with more detailed recovery instructions after your surgery. If you want to learn more about bra-line back lift surgery, schedule a consultation at our Chicago office and call us at (773) 763-3990.

Bra-line Back Lift Chicago, ILHaving excess money in your bank account and excess vacation days are all things worth bragging about, but having excess back fat certainly doesn’t make the cut. If you have back fat that drapes over your bra or that makes it impossible for you to wear a strapless dress without feeling self-conscious, then you may want to consider getting a back lift from Dr. Gregory Wiener. By surgically removing excess fat and skin from your back, patients who get this surgery rave about their results. To help ensure that you get the best results, however, it’s important that you follow some recovery tips. This article will discuss three things to avoid after getting a back lift. Read on to learn more.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health— unless you’re recovering from surgery. We encourage our patients to avoid any strenuous exercise or activities for around four weeks after surgery, because if it can place an undue amount of strain on your back and even open up your incisions.

Heavy Lifting

Whether it’s boxes or a child, try to avoid any heavy lifting after surgery. Because your surgery was on your back, any heavy lifting can open your incision, cause infection, or even increase your swelling. If you need something lifted, try asking a neighbor for help instead.

Regular Bras

As a female, it can be hard to leave the house without wearing a bra, but you should avoid wearing a regular bra for the first few weeks following surgery because it will just irritate your incision. Instead, make sure you wear the compression shirt/bra that we send you home with following surgery. This will not only help reduce swelling, but it will also restrict breast movement— a win, win during recovery.

Avoiding the three things listed above will help ensure that you have a smoother, speedier recovery. To learn more about back lifts or back lift recovery tips, contact Dr. Gregory Wiener today and schedule an appointment!
